South Dakota’s own GRAMMY-nominated professional chorus returns to the area for concerts featuring music from the rich choral traditions of the Baltic states. Sacred music by Arvo Pärt, Jaako Mantyjaarvi, Eriks Esenvalds, Peteris Vasks, and Cyrillus Kreek will be rounded out by a few Scandinavian composers. From a Requiem setting to commemorate the lives lost in a tragic Estonian shipwreck, to a stunning musical setting of a prayer by Mother Teresa, this music is deeply reflective and spiritually healing.
Our previous installment of Baltic music was in the 2014-2015 season with a series of concerts in South Dakota and Minnesota, and also performances in Salt Lake City, UT at Abravanel Hall and the Mormon Tabernacle, as featured guests of the National American Choral Directors Association. That program was recorded to great acclaim on our album Sacred Songs of Life and Love.
